Miami Vice

Michael Caine and Maggie Blye, The Italian Job, 1969.

“- Now, as you walk out to the plane, look neither to the right nor to the left. Just look straight ahead, okay? Just keep going straight ahead.”

Of course you recognise this line from The Italian Job. Charlie Croker (Michael Caine) is giving his girlfriend (Maggie Blye) instructions on how to board a plane to Geneva without drawing attention to herself. He could have put her in a Miami J collar, NHS issue.

Miami J Collar.

It may look like a comfortable ski boot. It is, in fact, an uncomfortable neck collar that immobilises the neck after a spinal injury. The wearer cannot look down, to left or to right, making going downstairs risky. It must be worn 24/7 including in the shower but you will know all this if you have worn one.

I expect after six weeks my Miami Vice and I will be best friends.

  1. Oh Christopher, what on earth has happened? I do hope that you are alright and there is someone close by to ensure that you are doing what is needed! Let’s have a SITREP soonest, please.

  2. Goodness Christopher it sounds as if you’ve had a nasty accident. Please take care of yourself especially on the stairs. Hope you recover quickly. Sending lots of love.
