Every Object Tells a Story

I have been to two artists’ studios this week. Sir John Lavery lived at 5 Cromwell Place from 1899 – 1940. To remind, he was born in Belfast and died in Co Kilkenny in 1941, aged eighty-four. In between he was painting in London.

Thomas Jervais

I was at Trim Cathedral for Holy Communion on the Sixth Sunday of Easter and paid attention to the Dean’s sermon. The First Lesson was Acts 17: 22-31 and this provided his opening.

Pallant House

Last weekend I went to Chichester for the first time. It is ridiculous how many cathedral cities I have not been to or not looked at properly. An excellent excuse for heading down to West Sussex is the Pallant House Gallery.

Matisse Mania

In August the Royal Academy is putting on Matisse in the Studio. Of course the works will not be for sale so if you’d like to buy a Matisse hasten along to the Bernard Jacobson Gallery.

Borough Polytechnic

In the 1980s polytechnics went out of fashion and were re-branded as universities. In 1892 Borough Polytechnic was opened by Lord Rosebery to provide practical instruction to people in the area.
