The falcon chick born aloft Charing Cross Hospital is showing no signs of leaving his parents. As a single male he may never leave and in a few years may mate with his mother. He’s called Jack but Oedipus might be more apt.

Messing About on the River

Taking a traghetto in Venice is practical and cheap; only 2 Euros a ride. Locals take them, standing insouciantly amidships reading the Corriere della Sera and juggling with a caffè corretto.

In a week Bertie will have his eighteenth birthday, in months. It’s hard to choose presents for humans let alone a beagle but I hope he will be pleased with my gift.

The Friends of Margravine Cemetery are aware of the problem of drugs being sold in the cemetery and this month will bring their concerns to the attention of the Parks Police and the police. I hope a representative from Hammersmith and Fulham Council might attend too.

A Towering Mistake

While King Street, Hammersmith, could not be mistaken for the Champs-Élysées, 8th arrondissement Paris, Hammersmith and Fulham council do a good job looking after the tree-lined streets of our mostly Victorian borough. It’s just their idea of planting a twenty-three storey tower block outside my bedroom window that seems ill-conceived.

Fishing & Fighting

As you can see local residents, including me, continue to oppose the building of this tower, overlooking the Conservation Area in which we live. We are supported, indirectly, by a verse in St John’s Gospel.
