Already I dress like him and I say things like, “that boy shouldn’t wear a face mask, it’s giving him spots”. But I wonder … is Sedaris, like Wodehouse a stylist? Is it for real? I think not. He writes for the Lowest Common Denominator and that sells books. He’s on ‘planes and trains and writes amusingly about the common people he meets. He was in Chisinau (Moldova) in 2017. I was there in 2019. He depicts the city as a dump. I went to the opera, an art gallery, churches and a winery. Moldova is definitely not a dump. So, unless he’s a total dick, I assume he writes fiction – and he does it well – his books sell; about 14 million and rising. I cannot believe he lives in cultural Siberia. You’ve seen his picture, tell me next time you see him in the stalls at Covent Garden.
