There was no post yesterday because I was busy doing a time-consuming chore; tidying the cellar.
When I rummaged around in the red wine section I found bottles that needed drinking, namely ‘97 Chateau Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, Pauillac. I knew it needed drinking because I gave a bottle as a birthday present to a friend. He was pleased it was worth £80 while it was unopened; not so pleased to find it was corked when opened and went to feed the fish. The bottle I opened was perfect – showing its age, don’t we all, and with less grip than it might have had five years ago but retaining a complex structure. It wouldn’t appeal to Robert Parker, Jancis Robinson would approve. There was an appealing masculinity with top notes of cedar wood and surprisingly still hints of less welcome tannin.
Meanwhile M&S have integrated with Ocado faster than I expected. Gratifyingly this is beginning to be reflected in the share price. Also they are positioning as the new Waitrose. Here’s what I’m having for lunch with a glass of The Society’s Beaujolais. Yes, YUM!
What’s the difference between Mick Jagger and a Scottish hill farmer? The farmer says “Hey, McLeod, get off of my ewe”. Mick Jagger says “Hey you, get off of my cloud”.
McLeod surely?!
Yes and corrected. Thank you!
£80 you say, enjoy!
