Bertie at The Ralph

Yesterday (Friday) Bertie was back with the vet.

Symptoms: unsteady on legs, high temperature, loss of hair and appetite and lesions. (Symptoms I often have, except for the lesions.) The vet thought he might have got Lyme disease in Richmond Park. Tests ruled this out. As it wasn’t an emergency the vet said there was a six week wait to get to the Royal Veterinary College up at Potters Bar or a two week wait to go to The Ralph in Marlow. (The Ralph sounds like a grand country house hotel.)

This was not acceptable and he had a second visit to the vet yesterday, the same vet who sent him to the RVC when he was paralysed. He was admitted to The Ralph last night. The lab there cannot run any tests until Monday but he is under skilled care; his fever has been brought down, he’s on pain killers for his inflamed muscles and The Ralph has asked what he likes to eat as he has turned up his nose at their cuisine. So, he is stable and The Ralph thinks his anti-immune system is not working and will run tests on Monday. So, as usual, we must await events.

  1. So sorry to hear this latest news on dear Bertie. Finger crossed they will attend to him on Monday, & find the reasons for his symptoms. Love to you both, Anne.

    1. All love to Bertie, for a successful diagnosis & speedy recovery xxx
With the exception of lesions, his symptoms are very similar to those of SRM, which is not uncommon in beagles (2 of ours have had it).

  2. Really concerned to hear about Bertie. So glad The Ralph admitted him. It was obviously an emergency so he’s definitely in the right place to get the best care and attention but worrying nonetheless for you & Robert. X
