Bertie Goes Shopping

Last Saturday Bertie and I got off the tube at Green Park. If he is asleep he wakes up to the command “Beagles alight”.

News from the ‘Hood

Morrisons bought some of McColl’s branches out of liquidation in 2022 and have rebranded them Morrisons Daily, including the Barons Court branch. I haven’t been in yet but hope there will be some Morrisons ready meals on the shelves. Not the crap McColl’s used to stock to sell to students.

Going, Going, Gone

The old joke is you find gentlemen trying to be auctioneers at Christie’s; at Sotheby’s it’s the other way round. So you may be surprised Sotheby’s, 1744, is the senior; Christie’s is an upstart founded in 1766.

William Gilberd

The Gilberd School was founded in 1912 as The Junior Technical School and in 1957 changed its name to The Gilberd School when girls were admitted. It moved to a new site in the 1970s.

Shopping by Tube

Most people who live in London have walked along the Brompton Road between Harrods and Harvey Nichols; it takes about five minutes if the pavement isn’t too congested.
