Every Blog Needs a Dog is an old post, dating back to August 2015 and, as you know, it wasn’t until last year that this blog got its own dog.
He was very pleased to see us yesterday; so excited that his blood pressure shot up and he started bleeding again; don’t ask from which orifice. Now he is settling down to a quiet convalescence. A Senior Clinical Training Scholar in Neurology & Neurosurgery and a Clinician in N & N wrote a longish report on his treatment of which this is an extract. “Please keep Bertie in a crate or confined room so that he cannot jump or fall. We would advise short, frequent periods of exercise for 5-10 minutes to allow for urination/defecation. He should not be allowed to run, jump or play with other dogs for the next 4 weeks. … Thank you for bringing Bertie to the Queen Mother Hospital for Animals, he is a lovely dog.” So Bertie is confined to the kitchen and is already bored.
The Senior Clinical Training Scholar has just called to check up on Bertie. She called every day when he was in hospital too. Nothing as sordid as money has been mentioned although we did pay a deposit when he was admitted.
It’s a bit of a balancing act choosing what to write about. Some want investment advice, others have an insatiable appetite for anything related to Barmeath, then there are readers of a literary, artistic and historical bent and a few are interested in local goings on. Personally I like writing travel posts as they serve as an interesting record for me. Pamela told me it’s like dipping into a box of chocolates; you don’t know if there’s going to be a soft or hard centre; a violet cream or a caramel crunch. Another friend living in California told me she loves reading her Letter from London. So I guess I should just keep ringing the changes and that means less about Bertie for a while.
Your posts have helped keep me happy and sane throughout the past year. Opening them, whatever the subject, is always a moment of happy anticipation. I’m sure I speak for all your readers in expressing my gratitude and urging you to continue. Like Galahad Threepwood you spread sweetness and light.
Michael, not Gally. The Earl of Ickenham, aka Uncle Fred, but thank you for your encouraging words that will keep me going!
I agree with Pamela!
Happy New Year, Christopher, and do please carry on with the Liquorice Allsorts approach to your blog.
Best wishes,
JD
