I regard it as a badge of honour to have Group 5 on my BA boarding pass. I am the last to board (no problem) and there is often no overhead locker space (annoying) but I know that I have paid the lowest fare (satisfying). On Thursday something happened that the BA commissars did not envisage.
The flight from Heathrow Terminal 5 was delayed by 1 1/2 hours. Usually I repair to Gordon Ramsay’s Plane Food restaurant for a little something to dispel any pre-take-off nerves but my host was on the same flight and invited me to join him in the BA lounge. There was an amazing selection of newspapers: all the UK nationals, Le Monde, Le Figaro, the TLS, etc. The spirits bar had Bombay Sapphire, Fevertree tonic and plenty of ice. I couldn’t find any lemon but I saw slices in used glasses so it must have temporarily run out. I had chicken curry for lunch with a South African Sauvignon Blanc and then cheese and red wine. When the waitress came to clear our plates she asked if we’d like a glass of champagne. My very frequent flier host was unaware that champagne was on offer in the BA silver card lounge. “We don’t put it out but I can pour you two glasses in the kitchen”, she confided. So it came to pass that a humble Group 5 passenger was treated royally.
The weather is beautiful in the Tarn. Much too good to waste sitting indoors blogging. There has been no rain for ages and the ground is parched but that should change on Sunday which will be good for the crops.
Yes the BA lounges are really good. I’ve always been loyal to them and as I fly a lot on business always achieve Silver status and on two occasions have gone GOLD! The First Class Lounges are really special and my Cousin and I often thought life couldn’t get any better and had to be dragged onto the plane!
