I walked from Barons Court to Southwark Bridge on Thursday morning (two hours). It was a sunny day and snowdrops and crocuses were out in the parks.
As I walked along the South Bank it was apparent that a lot more than spring flowers are sprouting. Take a look at this view of the City.
It saddens me to see such an historic part of London being ruined. The planners sanction anything so long as it doesn’t interfere with views of St Paul’s. All these offices could have been built in Southwark, like the Shard, or in Docklands but it’s turf wars with the Corporation wanting the revenue they generate.
As we are in the City I’m aware that I may have swanked about my investments. It would be difficult to make a bad call over the life of this website – nevertheless – in May 2016 I bought Edinburgh Investment Trust. It is an old, dull investment trust which, at the time, ticked all the boxes for me. The market has been rather strong since then but not-so-good old Edinburgh has, amazingly, managed to stock-pick so badly that when I sold my shares earlier this week I booked a loss of 4%. Diversification: it’s the name of the game.
Happy to report that unlike the glass drenched high rises defacing London Edinburgh Investment Trust is housed in a Georgian townhouse at 6 Albyn Place next to something called Kaplan International School ( an ESL mill I believe)
At least the odd bob lost supported architectural preservation and possibly preservation of few tweedy brokers with good golf games and cut glass SP.
