My dear Patrick,
. . . The words on you postcard are gay, lucid, arresting and sound as though you were creatively happy, even if you aren’t putting anything down on paper. Doesn’t one work in spurts? – long periods of silence, then a painful burst of activity. With me it is mostly a long period of silence . . .
Love, John B”

  1. Well, well. We visited the Old Rectory this afternoon. A little gem of a house with 365o views. It is on top of a hill so planning would prevent the necessary measures to protect it from cold winds. The garden was open today under NGS. Extraordinary range of shrubs and trees including my first sight of a Wollemia that was only rediscovered in New South Wales in 1994. Rather wonderful John Piper window as a memorial to JB in the church next door. (Ed- getting boring. Stop).
