The falcon chick, dubbed Azina, now wears an orange ring labelled P6S.
It took about six minutes during which the chick was weighed. The egg box is to remove the two unhatched eggs. Nathalie Mahieu comments:
It was not a surprise to anyone that she is indeed a she, and a big one at that, no doubt about it. She was pretty good during the process. Her parents were very noisy, it’s a good thing we were done quite quickly.
For the rest of the day she’s been sleeping. She didn’t even wake up or flinch when we had a big thunderstorm.
P6S has been well fed by her parents although it took a day for her to eat her first young starling. I have been well fed in St James’s. Today my guest and I had warm asparagus spears with hollandaise, shared a grilled Dover sole with Jersey Royals, spinach and carrots, and then Welsh rarebit. We washed this down with a glass of champagne, a bottle of Givry and a glass of red Burgundy. Top tip: if you like a splash of Worcestershire sauce on Welsh rarebit, flip it over so the WS can be absorbed by the toast.
Should you be fortunate enough to be a member of a club in St James’s, it is a privilege. The staff don’t change much except the waiters; the service is impeccable; food and drink are both better and cheaper than in many commercial restaurants. Better still the architecture is notable, the pictures are museum quality and, unlike a restaurant, lunch means a progression from bar to dining room to library. If I had unlimited money I might aspire to a well-staffed house in London but why bother? My club does it better.
I don’t apologise for this repeated musical link because my lunch guest is old enough to have seen Hair. I considered this very daring and was rather jealous but I’d never been to London; also this number is a personal favourite; let the sunshine in this summer in London.
Happy that the chick is alive and well. Glad to see Bertie in combatative form. Lunch at the club sounds perfect. I saw Hair in Bristol and was not as shocked as I hoped I would be.
Keep well and as informative as ever.
