These lines are from Lamentations in the Hebrew Bible. They are engraved on the block of granite at the centre of a small grove of silver birches near the Serpentine in Hyde Park: the Holocaust Memorial Garden.
Something to ponder on today as I observe Remembrance Sunday at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
These days Schindler would be vilified as a people trafficker. We have lost our compassion for vulnerable people.
