I mistakenly bought shares in Marks and Spencer. I had my reasons.
1. The shares were dirt cheap – below £2.
2. Archie Norman, chairman, knows how to turn around a business.
3. An important part of his strategy was, I thought, a brilliant bit of Spey casting. M&S bought half of Ocado; buying into a growing business and Ocado switched to delivering M&S products.
What could possibly go wrong? Ocado delivery vans are as rare as Great Bustards in west London. Robert claims he saw one near Richmond Park; not sure which.
Now I use Tesco: reliable with a wide product range and plenty of convenient delivery slots. I buy bulky items and use the shops at Barons Court for fresh produce and smaller stuff. Wine is sourced from The Wine Society and Doran Vineyards. The latter do not have a big range but supply excellent everyday red, white and rosé. The former are strong in all departments, particularly Sherry. Making mistakes? I bought some Tesco sherry. It’s revolting, should I write a review on their website, or do Tesco customers like something brown and saccharine?
