On Friday I took a god daughter for a belated birthday lunch. Her parents, another god parent and one of her brothers came along too.
I chose a fizzy white from Kent, branded “Brooks’s Bubbly”, and some pretty good white Burgundy. Thereafter the party went off piste with sweet white wines and port. We did have a bite to eat. Most had “Pan Seared Loin of Tuna with Bok Choy, Spicy Lime, and a Ginger and Soy Broth”, there was one taker for chicken and I had a slice of Brooks’s Pie – a personal favourite. It turns out the Head Chef has opined it’s the item on the menu he most dislikes.
Do you notice a resemblance between an Aubrac and a Bertie? I do. The former is on the menu next Saturday but I couldn’t eat him so have gone for this menu.
L’œuf, l’anchois et le concombre
La pêche du jour, la courgette et la coriandre
And a splash of the house white. It’s re-assuring to be asked to choose what to eat in advance and it will be my first time out of the British Isles since January 2020.
