
90% of the medieval centre of Nuremberg was destroyed by Allied bombing in just an hour. How was it rebuilt? Here are some pictures.





Nuremberg’s reconstruction has been a compromise. There are enough medieval facades to satisfy tourist photographers but within the walls of the old city I’d say that 75% of the buildings are post-war and not Disney repro.

Unlike Venice, Nuremberg is a functioning city with schools and a university. It works a lot better than English cities that had their hearts ripped out by post-war developers. Here endeth the lesson.
