“We cannot tell from day to day what may come. This is no ordinary time. No time for weighing anything except what we can do best for the country as a whole, and that responsibility rests on each and every one of us as individuals.”
That is Eleanor Roosevelt at the 1940 Democratic Convention, words that the Prime Minister might have used this morning when he was being interviewed on the BBC by Andrew Marr. He was a much less boastful toad, apparently more sincere. I have many reservations about Boris but this morning he did better than I expected. Can a leopard change its spots?
If you are a worrier it’s your lucky day, week, month …. the UK is broke; Brexit will not help the country’s finances; the pandemic is not dealt with; personal finances are coming under pressure; Scotland wants to secede … we are going to hell in a hand-basket. Boris was more up-beat and that’s leadership, I suppose.
If you think I’m a bit depressed you are spot on.
We have a new favorite game in America:
What the fuck is going to happen now?
Uncharted, shark-infested waters everywhere.
I saw the Marr interview with Boris live yesterday morning; I agree with you that Boris was a more polished communicator based on this performance. Indeed, it was noticeable how often he replied to the camera rather than his host. It will be interesting to see whether he manages to stay disciplined with his communications or whether he will revert to his off-the-cuff soundbites, e.g. over-ready Brexit etc!
Stay positive and I look forward to your daily musings.
