The Daily Universal Register changed its name to The Times in 1788. A new development in this venerable organ’s ability to adapt is the launch of Times Radio this year. It may fill a gap in the market.
My wireless diet is a combo of BBC Radio 3 and 4. The latter and in particular the Today programme encouraged me to migrate to The World Service (well done Sarah Sands, formerly editor of Today) often very good, now I’m in uncharted territory. Classic FM is no substitute for Radio 3 but I wonder if Times Radio might be better than The Home Service? It seems to me TR is like Test Match Special; there is a companionable flow of conversation – dialogues that keep me company while I’m doing household chores, spending quality time with Bertie and so on. It’s free but for how long? The Murdochs are businessmen and women. I think there will be an appetite to pay for Times Radio and that’s the Murdochs’ plan. Robert stumps up for Netflix and I may pay for TR.
Meanwhile I’m getting old. I used to look forward to the annual release of a James Bond film. I’m not saying I’ll not go if it’s screened at Riverside Studios and I can have a Bond-themed dinner afterwards at Sam’s Riverside. I watched the trailer, you can later, and the most alluring aspect is the Italian city of Matera. Here’s where’s Matera because Matera matters.
I expect shooting the film last year brought in some euros and I expect Bond tourists will bring in more. I just hope the lolly is not in the hands of the Mafia.
Sacra Corona Unita! I’m afraid the lads of Ndrangheta would begin to think dark thoughts if the Siciliano mafia or Camorra tried to muscle in on their territory ,Christopher. The Pulian lot probably made a packet providing ‘security’ for the production . A couple of the more presentable Mustache Joes on set to discourage free lancers also a strong possibility. Avanti Apulia.
