The Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière is late 19th century and is perched above Lyon. It is a bit of a climb but was worth it for me as there was an unexpected bonus.
The church is ornate and is a popular destination for tourists.
This is the surprise that delighted me.
A whole exhibition devoted to Albert Gleizes was right up my street. Evie Hone and Mainie Jellett, his young Irish disciples, were mentioned but none of their work was exhibited.
After this I had low expectations of this small museum.
The clue is “small”. The pictures above are all of miniature interiors, like rooms in a dolls’ house. The attention to detail in their construction is impressive and my pictures don’t do them justice. On a larger scale there is this Roman amphitheatre and another view of the Saône and the city. There is much to commend Lyon as a destination for a short holiday.
