A Swale

Swaledale Sheep, August 2017.

Almost five years ago R and I had a walking holiday in Swaledale.

Last week I found a swale closer to home, in Kensington Gardens.

”The swale really boosts biodiversity”? Not when I took this picture.

Like a chalk stream it may rev up when there’s some rain but it looks  dull in a drought.

Bertie and I went away for the weekend. R was playing tennis. We both missed R but enjoyed ourselves. Spot the beagle.

Bertie really loves staying in the country. He can go out to snuffle and sniffle around the garden and have good off-the-lead walks. A bonus is playing with Perdita, a black Labrador.

Seen at The Bell Inn, Langford, May 2022.

A friend sent me this – he saw it hanging up in the Gents, a word Nicky Haslam would surely find Common.

I am a little concerned that your ewe above would not make the show ring as a pure bred Swaledale let alone the sheep section of the Almanac de Goethe. Wikipedia states that “ Swaledales are noted for their off-white wool, curled horns and white around their nose and eyes.”
Looks as if a Suffolk tup jumped over the stonewall somewhere down her pedigree (to recycle Sir Thomas More).
