Easter Eggs

Peregrine Falcon eggs, Charing Cross Hospital, 14th April 2022.

Yesterday was the 33rd day the peregrines have been incubating their eggs. It is likely they will hatch today or tomorrow.

Azina (I think), Charing Cross Hospital, 14th April 2022.

Last year only one egg hatched. This year Tom has a new mate who seems to be more conscientious in her maternal duties. She is reluctant to let Tom sit on her eggs for long.

Freddie’s Flowers got into the spirit of Easter too this week, including Easter eggs in their weekly delivery. The packaging is about as naff as naff can be but Tony is Dutch and it may appeal to Dutch kinder. More importantly “Tony”, real name Teun van de Keuken, is sourcing his cocoa ethically, at least trying to. His chocolates only came to the UK and Ireland in 2019 so you may not have seen them yet. In 2015 the company discovered two chocoholics in Portland, Oregon and opened an office there to keep them supplied; happy Easter, Marie and Katy.

  1. Thank you Christopher. We listened to the Good Friday music from Parsifal, as always. In the picture which castle is standing in for Montsalvat?

  2. The girls send their best wishes for a Happy Easter to you, too. Tony’s is dangerously pervasive in Portland, and is much liked in our house, as you guessed. The bars are a good size, the chocolate is excellent, and they have many unusual flavors (e.g., white chocolate with raspberries and something that reacts like pop rocks in the mouth [pace, those who say white chocolate is not real chocolate]). The packaging, as you note, is perhaps idiosyncratically Dutch.
