Tesla cars are gratifyingly expensive if, like me, you are a shareholder in Scottish Mortgage and other tech funds. There are at least two Teslas in Margravine Gardens. There is a smattering of other, cheaper, electric cars round the block. The cheapest is yet to come: Citroën’s Ami. When I was a teenager I had a Solex – on loan from Mr Behan, the Drogheda dentist. You will perhaps remember A Tooth for a Solex. The Ami is classified as a quadricycle. This means, like the Solex, it can be driven on roads in France by children aged fourteen; probably not on autoroutes as the Ami has a top speed of less than 30 mph and a range of less than fifty miles. Take a look.
Not pretty but functional. If it is sold in the UK it will cost less than £6,000 and could become an alternative upgraded mobility scooter. Charging takes three hours via a standard three point domestic socket, as long as it takes to charge an iPad. Take a test drive.
