Plogging Party

Are you up for a Plogging Party? It’s in Sullakki, 28th – 30th September. I cannot go but if you are interested you can read about it here

What do you mean, you don’t know how to plog? It’s what was known when I was at Castle Park as a “craze”. If I may digress, one craze was making “tanks” out of cotton reels, elastic bands, cocktail sticks and candle ends. By cutting notches in the cotton reel the tank could climb obstacles. It was fun. Readers with a mental age of 8 1/2 should try. Ever the entrepreneur I loaded up with the necessary materials to barter for Tuck. Unfortunately I missed the boat – no more interest in tanks, another craze had started.

Ploggers, to put it in a nutshell, pick up litter while jogging. When I was in Libya a few years ago the trees were festooned in plastic bags. The culture was to drop litter and plastic bags don’t degrade. India has the same issue and plogging raises awareness of pollution at the same time as cleaning up. It started in Sweden, where there are more joggers than litter.

  1. The children at school here were despatched on regular Emu Parades to give the school grounds a good clean up. Similar to Plogging, but the kids, being a little lower to the ground, could pick up all the little bits.
